Adeola, daughter of popular Nollywood actress Jumoke George, has returned to Nigeria after surviving four years of forced labor in Mali. She bravely shared her story in a video interview on Biola Adebayo’s YouTube channel.
The Deception
Adeola explained that a **trusted family friend** tricked her with a fake job offer. The friend claimed a woman in Mali needed someone with medical knowledge to work in her new pharmacy. Promised good pay and a brighter future, Adeola agreed without telling her family, fearing they would stop her.
The Betrayal
The journey to Mali took **five days**. When Adeola arrived, the woman she was supposed to work for dropped a bombshell: “You no longer own yourself. You’ve been sold to me for ₦1.5 million.” Adeola was told she had to work to “repay” this fake debt to regain freedom.
Her Words
“I’m a victim of human trafficking. A close family friend lied to me about a job in Mali. She knew I had some medical knowledge and used that to trick me. I trusted her, so I didn’t even tell my mother. When I got there, I realized I’d been sold like property.”
Adeola’s story is a stark reminder of how human traffickers exploit trust and hope.
